PUMA always aims high and continues to set new standards with successful innovations. All with one goal – to be the fastest sports brand in the world.

Tradition:
PUMA’s strength? Its unique sporting heritage and credibility when it comes to the latest lifestyle trends. To stay on course, PUMA strengthens its position as a sports brand through partnerships with top athletes like seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and football star Neymar Jr. PUMA also reaches young trendsetters through brand ambassadors from the worlds of culture and fashion, such as Cara Delevingne and Dua Lipa.

For the brand, women are not only trendsetters who draw inspiration from sportswear for their everyday styles – more and more women around the world are engaging in sports. Building on PUMA’s position as a credible fashion and authentic sports brand, and with a deep understanding of modern, sporty women, they have positioned their women’s offering under the claim “where the gym meets the runway.”

PUMA continuously improves the quality of its distribution. They have also expanded their presence with key sport performance and sportstyle retailers worldwide. Their goal is to strengthen relationships with major retailers, be a reliable partner, and maximise their contribution to retail success.

ORIGINS AND HISTORY

In 1919, brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler took the first step in a long history shaped by performance and speed: in their hometown of Herzogenaurach, Germany, they founded the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. Five years later, in 1924, they moved into their first factory. At the time, they had no idea they were laying the foundation for the world capital of sports footwear. Back then, Herzogenaurach was home to many small shoe factories – most of which didn’t survive the 1950s and 60s.

The Dasslers, however, had a different fate. They celebrated early successes. At the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, most German athletes competed in Dassler spikes. So did Jesse Owens at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, where he won four gold medals. More accolades followed: seven gold and five bronze medals for world-class athletes in Dassler shoes. Records were also broken: two world records and five Olympic records. The Dasslers had achieved national and international breakthroughs. 28 years after founding the Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory, the brothers parted ways. Rudolf Dassler moved into another family-owned building, converted the warehouse into a factory with 14 employees, and founded his own company: “Sportschuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler (RUDA)” was registered in January 1948 and began operations on 1 June 1948. Four months later, the PUMA brand was born: on 1 October 1948, “PUMA” was registered with the German Patent and Trademark Office. In December 1948, Rudolf Dassler announced in a letter to partners and customers that the company would be called “PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler.” It was officially entered into the German commercial register on 14 January 1949.
