In connection with the sale of batteries or the delivery of devices containing batteries, we are obliged under the Battery Act (BattG) to inform you of the following:
Batteries and rechargeable batteries must not be disposed of with household waste. As an end user, you are legally obliged to return used batteries. Used batteries may contain harmful substances that can damage the environment or your health if not stored or disposed of properly. However, batteries also contain important raw materials such as iron, zinc, manganese and nickel, and are recycled. You can return used batteries to a municipal collection point or to a local retailer. As a distributor of batteries, we are also obliged to take back used batteries, whereby our take-back obligation is limited to used batteries of the type that we carry or have carried in our range as new batteries.
Under the Battery Act on the return and disposal of used batteries, we are obliged to take back the new batteries we sell from our range or from the devices we sell for disposal. You can therefore return used batteries to us free of charge. Please send the old batteries or rechargeable batteries to us free of charge together with a short note (e.g. ‘Old battery disposal’) (please observe dangerous goods regulations!):

The symbols shown on the batteries or rechargeable batteries have the following meanings:
The symbol of the crossed-out wheelie bin means that the battery must not be disposed of with household waste. The chemical symbols for ‘Pb’ (= lead), “Cd” (= cadmium) and ‘Hg’ (= mercury) are located below the crossed-out wheelie bin symbol if the battery contains more than the following percentages by weight of the respective pollutant:
Pb = Battery contains more than 0.004% lead by weight
Cd = Battery contains more than 0.002% cadmium by weight
Hg = Battery contains more than 0.0005% mercury by weight
Please observe the above instructions.
You can also find this information in the accompanying documents for the goods delivery or in the operating instructions provided by the respective device manufacturer.
Important note regarding lithium batteries and battery packs
Lithium batteries and rechargeable battery packs may only be returned to us in a discharged state or placed in the used battery collection containers at retailers and public waste disposal facilities. If the batteries are not completely discharged, precautions must be taken to prevent short circuits.
Definition: ‘Lithium batteries’ are single-use lithium primary batteries; ‘battery packs’ also include lead, nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride and lithium accumulators.
The ‘fully discharged’ state is reached when the usual end of use is reached (e.g. switching off the device when the final discharge voltage is reached or functional impairments due to insufficient battery capacity). To prevent short circuits, the terminals must be insulated with adhesive tape.
The symbol for the separate collection of electrical and electronic equipment is a crossed-out wheelie bin. Disposing of this electrical equipment in household waste is prohibited under the ElektroG (Act on the Marketing, Return and Environmentally Sound Disposal of Electrical and Electronic Equipment)!
As a consumer, you can also dispose of electrical appliances at your local council's collection and return points. Improper disposal of old electrical appliances poses a risk to people and the environment.
